Cystic fibrosis , a chronic and debilitating genetic lung disease, often leads to premature death. To help combat the disease and raise funds for research and treatments, over 1,000 participants from across Orange County walked in the Great Strides fundraiser in Huntington Beach on May 15th.

The walk was held at the Bolsa Chica State Beach on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Warner. After the three-mile walk, participants enjoyed music, food, and fun activities. Hurley's "Living The Dream" Foundation (online at livingthedreamfoundation.org) participated with a team of more than 200 walkers.

The Huntington Beach Great Strides event is among six held in Southern California this year, including one scheduled for June 12 in Long Beach . The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation launched the Great Strides fundraiser program in 1989. Locally, organizers hope to raise more than $825,000 during this year's campaign.
